Harry is a 2011 Toyota Hiace high-roof campervan, and he is a genuine one-off. The high roof means you can stand up, cook, get changed and relax in comfort. He drives like a car, not a bus, with a strong 2.7L petrol engine that is well-geared for the South Island hills.
There is a reversing camera to make parking easy, and a towbar on the back that has carried a jet ski plenty of times. Pick him up in person in Christchurch and you will be on the road in no time.

Ferry tip. At 4.48 m Harry sits in the smallest length band for Interislander and Bluebridge sailings, which both start under 5.5 m. Longer vans move up a band and cost more to put on the boat.

Self-contained, with a toilet on board. The solar keeps your lights, fridge and devices going, and the gas cooker and hot-water boiler work anywhere off grid. The coffee machine, microwave and fan heater need mains power, so Harry is happiest at powered campsites. You also get free coffee pods and water to start your trip.

Where to take him
Harry's classic South Island loop
Pick Harry up in Christchurch and loop the South Island over a relaxed week or two: Lake Tekapo and the Dark Sky Reserve, Queenstown, Milford Sound, Wanaka, the glaciers and the wild West Coast, then home over Arthur's Pass. His 2.7 litre motor is well geared for the hills, so none of it is hard work.

- 4-night minimum hire.
- Pickup and drop-off in Christchurch, 9am to 5pm.
- No smoking inside, and no pets unless approved in advance.
- No extended unsealed roads over 7km.
- Return with a full tank. Harry runs on petrol, about 12L per 100km.
- No off-road driving. Harry is GPS tracked.
- Want an extra driver? Ask us before you book.
- Happiest at powered campsites. Unpowered DOC sites are fine with the gas cooker.
- Flexible cancellation on Camplify: cancel more than 10 days before the trip for a full credit, between 4 and 10 days for a 90% credit, and inside 4 days there is no credit or refund.
